past: Cris was born as the seventh child of a greatly impoverished family in Santiago, Chile. They had come all the way to the hospital so that his mother could give birth, as she had been recently very ill; she died not long after Cristobal was born. Incapable of caring for all of his children financially, Cristobal’s father put his newborn up for adoption with the knowledge that younger babies were taken much more quickly than older. Thus, Cristobal grew up with no knowledge of his biological family. Well, not exactly no knowledge: his parents taught him some. He does not, however, have an accent or knowledge of Spanish for this reason. His parents had debated for a long time over whether or not to rename him, but in the end they decided to keep the name his biological parents had given to him. Cristobal was an only child on a large estate in New England and became quite a preppy boy, fashion-wise, though always remained fairly quiet. On his home, there were horses, and he grew up with them, always riding, always dreaming of adventure. His family enrolled him in Abbleberry Crest Academy, as that was where, it seemed, everyone in the family went. They did not, however, allow him to take one of their horses because they felt he needed to learn how to take care of himself and not to take things for granted; he has to work for what he gets, he has to earn everything.
