WHEN WE WERE YOUNGER WE THOUGHT EVERYONE WAS ON OUR SIDE I walked into the cafeteria, hungry for food. And for a friend. Sammie had been oddly cold over the past few days, avoiding me and glaring at me in classes and in the hallways. Somehow it was like she knew. She knew I had told my guidance counselor everything she had told me. Everything. About how someone wanted her dead. And might act on it. It was something I couldn't keep private. I wanted to keep Sammie safe and I knew it was the right thing to do to tell someone. At least I thought it was the right thing to do. Being avoided by Sammie was weird, and I was actually starting to think she did know. That wasn't possible though, was it? I saw her getting in line. For once she wasn't surrounded by people. If you didn't go to Canterwood you would think she was just another girl waiting in line for lunch. Except for the fact that she was wearing Prada. I walked up to her quickly. "Hey," I said, taking a breath. "Sammie." I waited for her to respond. taggedwho? words # outfit polyvore outfit notes notes THEN WE GREW A LITTLE BIT AND ROMANTICIZED

It was a slightly overcast day, yet the sky seemed to hold back the rain in an attempt to be remotely hospitable. But for some reason, the overcast was worse than the storm - it was an awkward middle stage, leaving people fearing the future and wishing for the past, kind of like me at this exact moment. I let off a cold, mean vibe, and for once, people cowered in fear from me more than usual, not even making an attempt to socialize with the queen. And to be honest, right now it felt like I'd open a can of whoop-ass on any soul who dared approach me. My mind kept wandering to Kate. Word had gotten out that Kate had told the authorities about my sitch. And boy, was I pissed at that girl. I'd totally trusted her- I wouldn't have told her if I didn't. Usually, I was an expert at keeping secrets and only telling them to the right people at the right time, but now I had to put up a front and make her pay. And get rid of that guidance counselor as soon as possible. Speak of the devil, Kate hurried up to me, looking nervous, and addressed me. I shot her a cool sideways glance. I knew Kate gets nervous easily and hates conflict, because she was my BFF and I knew every little twirk about her, which is exactly why I'd use them against her. But I had a plan and I wasn't going to attack her right away. "Omigod, hey!" I said, grinning widely and hugging her tightly. "We haven't talked in forever. Lets sit." I said, tossing my golden hair and leading the way to the mega-popular table in the middle of the caf.

SHE'S THE DEVIL IN DISGUISE
Spencer stood in the lunch line, her hands gripping her tray tightly. She watched people make way for Sammie. Sammie told her she could try that. Hesitantly stepping out of the line, she tossed ehr hair over her shoulder and stood up straighter. Slowly walking to the front, she kind of idled by the line until a boy noticed her. "Hey Spencer, in a hurry? You can go ahead of me." Making an attempt to brush the shaggy hair out of his face, he grinned at her. "Um, thanks Brad." She said, slipping in front of him. She felt a hand on her ass. She resisted the urge to slap him across the face. Sammie said it was all a part of becoming popular. Being popular wasn't something she usually wanted, but it was the only way she was gonna get answers about Violet. So here she was, in the front of the lunch line, with a boy groping her butt. She sent Violet a telepathic message. You better be alive. This better be worth it. "Hon?" The lunch lady snapped her out of her focusing. "Oh um, grilled chicken and mashed potatoes please." Grabbing an orange and a water, Spencer headed for the empty middle table that sat 4. No one sat there, unless you were Sammie or, now, her. Plopping down, she began to peel her orange, letting the cafeteria noise drown out her thoughts. Looking up, she realized she had company. Sammie was towing a mousy looking girl in vera bradley. Spencer glanced at Sammie. There were only 2 reasons Sammie brought a girl to the table. One; if she thought the girl was something special. The last time that happened, that was Spencer, and the table was empty. And two; if Sammie was going to alienate this girl, and make her the laughing stock of the school. One glance at Sammie's huge fake grin and she knew it was the latter. HAlf smiling, Spencer went back to peeling her orange, one eye on Sammie. "Hey." She said coolly, not looking at the other girl.

I hadn't even noticed Spencer at the table until now, and I shot her a cool grin. 'Spencer. This is Kate.' I said, gesturing to the girl sitting next to me. I had a bottle of water in my hand and that was lunch for me. I eyed Spence's food choices, an eyebrow raised, before leaning over and whispering to her, glancing Kate. I knew how uncomfortable this would make her. "Spill your drink on her." I whispered to Spence before smiling widely at Kate and tilting my head.

SHE'S THE DEVIL IN DISGUISE
Spencer smiled and stared at Kate as Sammie whispered in her ear. Her water bottle wouldn't be enough. She looked behind her to the jocks table, a table that sat right next to their's. "Brad." She said, causing the freckled boy to look up excitedly. "Come here." Brad grabbed his tray and sat down next to Spencer. She grabbed his big soda and took a sip of it. "So, Kate, where are you from?" She said, stabbing a piece of evading chicken on her fork. As she began to explain, Spencer leaned over the table, reaching for the salt shaker. Her body hit the soda which in turn tumbled into Kate's lap, spilling the fizzy liquid all over her. "Oh, Sorry." She said, grabbing the salt and sitting back down. She eyed Sammie. "You want some napkins or something?"

WHEN WE WERE YOUNGER WE THOUGHT EVERYONE WAS ON OUR SIDE I was shocked at how open Sammie seemed to be. She practically dragged me over to the table with the Mega-Populars. I had never sat with them before and I could see people glancing at me jealously. I smiled to myself, looking at the ground. Sammie was great. It was like she had forgotten everything that had happened. Or she had never found out. I breathed a sigh of relief. As a seat was cleared for me I saw Sammie whispering to another girl I hadn't seen before. I was introduced to the girl - Spencer - who seemed to be preoccupied with the boy next to her. She took a sip of his drink and asked where I was from. "Well, I was born in Boston but I move --" The girl moved her body just so and the drink spilled. Right into my lap. On my brand new white Abercrombie and Fitch jeans. The table grew quiet. "Oh, sorry, you want some napkins or something?" Spencer asked, looking like she was rolling her eyes. As if it was my fault she had spilled her drink all over me! I blushed deeply and grabbed some napkins off the table, trying to wipe up the soda. The table laughed. Everyone was watching me, not even trying to hide their laughter, just bleating it out. I looked at Sammie, wondering how she would respond. She didn't say anything. Didn't stand up and defend me. She just sat there. And smirked. At me. She turned to Spencer and gave her a quick look. I knew what the look was. Maybe nobody else saw it, but I did. A look of...thanks. She had planned this, and now she was laughing at me. I smiled and shrugged like I didn't care. "I should, um, go back to my dorm and uh...clean up." I whispered, almost to myself and stood up quickly, covering my messy jeans with my sweater and running out the door. I ran all the way to my dorm before I curled up on my bed and let the tears spill forth. taggedwho? words # outfit polyvore outfit notes notes THEN WE GREW A LITTLE BIT AND ROMANTICIZED

I watched the drink pour all over her, my face straight and eerily calm. I crossed my arms and smirked in humor, an eyebrow raised. I laughed coolly as Kate hurried out of the caf, standing up and yelling after her. "See you later, bestie!" I said in a fake-bubbly voice as the caf errupted in laughter and I leaned over to high five Spence, a grin spreading across my face, but the most awful, sour feeling in the pit of my stomach. I looked at the boy next to Spencer. "Omigod, back to your table. Now." I snapped poisonously and pointed at the jocks table expectantly. He scrambled back to his seat and I stared at Spencer. "I'll explain later." I said boredly, referring to the Kate incident. -closed-
