past: Some people are just born lucky, others are not. And then there are some who have a bit of both. Duke van Buren falls into this last category. On a stormy night, a married couple was traveling on the roads when the car slipped on the surface of the roads. In a state of panic, the man slammed his break downs as they came to the approaching curve. Instead of the car stopping though, the breaks failed and the car hit the guard rail hard enough to send it flipping right over it. The woman was pulled from the wreckage first and then raced to the ER, medics had to cut into her to save her unborn baby, thus becoming the only survivor of that night.

A young blue blood family came looking for a baby. Desperate to have their own child but unable to convince. Rather than go through more pain and suffering with tests and failed attempts, they looked to the adoption agency to set them up. From there, they were set up with this little 'miracle baby' as he had been dubbed. It was love at first sight and William and Tessa van Buren quickly fought to have him as their own, going through the countless paperwork, interviews, and set ups. In the end though, the baby became theirs and they quickly named him Duke.

Being the little apple of their eyes, Duke grew up spoiled and privileged. Although, that didn't mean that he just sat around all day. At a young age, he excelled in sports, particularly lacrosse and swimming which soon became his go to sports. It developed him into a rather aggressive guy, but not only that, he also always felt like he had this drive to prove himself and be the best. It was something that could not be explained by the van Buren's, but they didn't find themselves troubled by this behavior. Throughout the years, Duke was always enrolled exclusively at private and boarding schools due to their money as well as D.C.'s poor public school system.

After getting into a fight after a game with one of his rivals from another school that ended up with the kid in the hospital did his parents start to worry just a little about his natural aggression. They put him in with a therapist, but it seemed to do little to help him out simply because he thought it was a waste of his time when he could be out on the field or partying it up with his friends. With all of those distractions proving to be his fault, his parents decided that they needed a little change of scenery. Closing their home in D.C. for now, they picked up their things and moved out to one of their summer homes in Southern Georgia. But instead of moving back once the season was up, the van Buren's decided to stay much to Duke's surprise and anger.

They enrolled him into Appleberry Crest at the start of sophomore year and Duke has been at school ever since. He wasn't the biggest fan of it either, being the South seemed like such a foreign territory to him compared to the urban street's of the nation's capitol. But he made it work, quickly becoming one of the school's rising athlete's over the years as well as probably one of the school's biggest class A jerk's as well. Yes, Duke van Buren has it easy but maybe not for much longer. Sooner or later, at the age of eighteen, he'll be given the blow of finding out that he's adopted and not only that, that his real parents are dead. But there's no real reason to cry just yet, at twenty one, he'll come into another huge inheritance from a wrongful death suit from relatives of his dead parents. But it also poses a question now: if it's a wrongful death, does that mean that crash happened for a reason? Only time will tell.
