Jake had risen early that morning so that he could get a good spot in the riding rings because he figured in a large campus with a large amount of horses and riders that there wouldn't be very much time for him to get a good ride on Duchess alone in a ring. He walked into the barn which was opened up already no doubt by the barn caretakers so they could feed the horses their morning grain. He headed into the tack room and grabbed Duchess's tack and grooming tools and headed for a pair of cross ties that were out of the way but close to his mares stall.
He adjusted his leather jacket on his shoulders as he headed into Duchess's stall and clipped her lead line on and lead her out the mare snorted and shuffled her feet excitedly before quickly calming down. Jake was quick and efficient about his grooming so that he was able to get everything he needed to have done in a record 15 minutes that included tacking up the sometimes stubborn mare. He lead her down the pathway out of the barn and towards the indoor arena he figured it would be smarter and safer to do their first ride in an inclosed space so that if Duchess spooked he didn't have to worry about her bolting off on him away from the arena. Once in the arena he shut the arena gate securely behind him before he swung himself into the saddle.
He started off by walking Duchess around the ring quickly so he got her attention as early on as possible. He patted her neck as them made one lap of the ring then he asked her speed up into a trot he got her to do a few basic direction turns then he looked up as the arena gate swung open announcing the arrival of someone.

Bast loved her job. Don't get her wrong, she loved her life as a jockey but this was good too. It was quiet and peaceful while still requiring hard work. Perfect. The caretaker's schedule was busy and adjusted each day to fit unexpected events. However, there were two things that remained unchanged. Her day began early in the morning so she could feed the horses and there was almost always a slot for personal time with Nutty, no matter how small that amount of time was.
So, here she was now. Back in the stables despite the fact that breakfast was already distributed. Bast paced her little domain a few times before settling in front of her stallion's stall, simply watching him. Nutty watched back for a bit before suddenly sticking his head out and nudging his owner. He was restless and wasn't afraid to show this with rough nudges and a small whinny. "Hey Nutjob..." Bast muttered, ignoring him. She was rewarded for this with a small nip. "Okay, okay already! We'll go, we'll go."
A quick grooming and tacking later, horse and human made their way to the indoor arena with the human leading the way. As soon as she entered, Bast regretted choosing this place. "You better behave ya stupid stallion." She growled to the bay standardbred as she swung onto his back with graceful ease. A click of the tongue and a firm kick started the pair with a slow trot. A quick warm up before Bast showed off Nutty Bay's true trotting speed. "Morning." A short greeting was given as the older rider passed the younger one. Just enough to show that she was, indeed, friendly.

Jake gave the other rider who from what he could see was a few years older then him he wondered if she was a teacher or a stable hand he hadn't had a chance to look at the names of any of the staff members while looking at the school. He ran a hand through his short semi-dark hair he was wearing his favorite black leather jacket and a nice red, black and white checkered shirt and dark washed blue jeans. He didn't have an jhodpurs at the moment because the suitcase containing them had been lost along the way of his travels.
He gave Duchess a quick sharp squeeze on her side and clicked his tongue sending her forward into a quick and collected trot with a tiny spurt. He rose and fell into a careful and steady rhythm of rising trot he made a good lap around the ring he was glad that floor here in the arena wasn't too deep or too shallow and it wasn't so thick that it slowed Duchess down when she trotted. It would make for good Dressage work and if he wanted it too it could work out to be very good for Jumping as well as it wasn't too thick so the mares hooves didn't sink into it. He glanced around at the other rider wondering how long he'd been lost in his own thoughts for it was a habit he had when he started to think about riding.
